I did not even notice the figure in the wood till I cleaned up the last 60 years of dust all over it. I figured I was buying enough wood for necks and blocks and linings to last me a nice long time but I'll cut this up for backs and sides. It's old Honduran so it should be stable enough right?
Flatsawn should be no problem at all. Honduran mahogany's expansion rates are 2.9% for quartersawn and 4.3% for flatsawn. Sitka is 4.3% and 7.5%. Black walnut is 5.5% and 7.8%. So with spruce it should be no more likely to crack than the soundboard. And It will be more stable than even the best sawn walnut. Not quite the invincibility of pairing QS mahogany with cedar or redwood and bracing in low humidity, but still quite stable as far as woods go.
If it turns out the rest of the stuff is figured then maybe I'll resaw some sets for sale.
